Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was a child prodigy. As a person with Irish heritage, and surrounded as she was by gifted parents and family did this naturally. Maureen was welcomed into this caring haven on August 17 1920, in Ranelagh (a suburb within Dublin), Ireland. Marguerita L. FitzSimons had a successful contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based business and owned a share of "The Shamrock Rovers," a renowned Irish soccer squad. Maureen was the third of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen did well as a sporty woman and was a gruelling athlete in games as a child. Her passion for sports was matched by an equally natural gift for performing. As evidenced by getting almost every Feis award for drama and theatrical performing her country offered. At the age of 14, she was admitted to the highly acclaimed Abbey Theater and pursued her dreams of classical theatre and operatic singing.
